Rowland Hill oil painting (c.1836)
Rowland Hill was the most significant postal reformer of the Victorian era and is credited with introducing the world’s first postage stamp. This oil on canvas is attributed to Mary M Pearson. The half-length portrait shows Hill as a young man seated at his desk, holding a sheet of paper, with a quill and book resting on the desk.
