Home Gallery Queen Elizabeth’s Letter to President Dwight D. Eisenhower (24 January 1960) Held in the National Archives
In late summer 1959, US President Eisenhower visited the Queen at Balmoral during a visit to Britain. In a handwritten letter dated 24 January 1960, Queen Elizabeth wrote to President Eisenhower apologising for having ‘never sent you the recipe of the drop scones which I promised you at Balmoral’. The drop scone recipe accompanies the letter. Clearly Eisenhower had enjoyed these during his time in Britain.
