This is one of a series of letters sent by Herbert Samuel to try and boost the number of new recruits, after recruitment tailed off following the initial rush at the beginning of the War. This letter actively encourages staff to join the war effort. Over 75,000 Post Office staff left their jobs to fight in the First World War.
