Celebrating Britain’s 2012 gold medal athletes
To honour the amazing achievements of British gold medal winners during the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics, Royal Mail painted postboxes gold in the winners’ home towns. 110 Post Boxes were painted with the most northerly in Lossiemouth, Scotland, painted to celebrate Heather Stanning’s rowing victory with partner Helen Glover. Helen’s Glover’s box, in Penzance, is actually the most southerly location. Each post box also has a plaque with the athlete’s name and the location's connection with London 2012.
