Only 171 pillar boxes were produced in Edward VIII’s short reign. They are very rare. Some of the boxes had their doors replaced with George V’s cipher, as the cipher for the new monarch, George VI, hadn’t yet been confirmed. Some doors were later replaced with the George VI cipher. Few of the Edward VIII boxes remain. An example of the postbox can be seen in Christchurch, Dorset.
