Home Gallery The travelling case of the grandfather of the Penny Post (1795)
This wooden leather-bound, silver-fitted dressing case belonging to Sir Francis Freeling, the reforming Secretary of the Royal Mail who served from 1798 to 1836. It was donated to the GPO in 1954 by his great-grandson Brigadier General R C W Lukin. It was likely used by Freeling on his travels around the country and contains glass bottles, a shaving brush and steel instruments.
