As the number of addresses in the UK continued to increase, a more efficient way to demark address areas was called for. Modern postcodes were first trialled in Norwich in 1959, and then introduced in Croydon in 1966. Coding the entire country was done in stages, and finished in 1974. This single vinyl record features the 'Postcode Song' and the 'Letter Song'. The record sleeve includes an image of POCO, the Postcode Elephant, a character used in the 1980s for the postcode advertising campaign.
