The earliest known picture postcard was posted to Theodore Hook in the mid-19th century. Over the following years, the popularity of postcards increased. They were printed with a stamp as part of the design, which was included in the price of purchase. They were priced at half a penny to promote sending more mail and to save time for business people who didn’t want to open envelopes.
