The fan that led to a love affair (1907)

This small silk Japanese fan with a picture of a woman is an unusual item sent through the post. One side is addressed to 'Miss Cornish/ 94, Glendower Road,/ Peverell/ Plymouth' and bears two Indian Half Anna stamps – the first official postage stamp of India. Miss Cornish's sweetheart, a Mr Morell, was in India and sent this fan through the post unwrapped. Miss Cornish married Mr Morell in 1908.
