Home Gallery Sydney-London Coronation day flight Mail Bag (1953)
On 2 April 1931, the first airmail flight from Britain to Australia took to the skies. Since then, flights have run with increasing regularity. To celebrate Britain’s close relationship with Australia, a special airmail flight took place for the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.
The plane carried this cream canvas mail bag which was printed with the message: 'POSTMASTER-GENERAL/AUSTRALIA/SYDNEY LONDON (with Elizabeth’s Crown) CORONATION DAY FLIGHT/JUNE 2 1953/AIR MAIL'.
