This letter from the postal reformer and innovator Rowland Hill to Robert Smith, one of the two superintending Presidents of the GPO (General Post Office), introduces Rowland Hill's assistant, Henry Cole. Cole was to go on to play a key role in the introduction of the world’s first postage stamp the Penny Black.
