‘Relays carrying the King's messages, 1482’, by Harold Sandys Williamson (1934)

This poster – ‘Relays carrying the King’s messages, 1482’ by Harold Sandys Williamson – was part of the first set (Overseas Communications) in a series of posters known as ‘school posters’, produced from 1934 until 1939. These posters were intended to educate school children and the public in the ‘history and modern development of communications’. Whilst they were issued free to schools, the public could purchase individual and full sets of posters. Harold Sandys Williamson (1892-1978) was a British artist born in Leeds, who attended the Royal Academy, and also designed posters for London Transport and London Underground between 1922 and 1939.
