‘Please use the correct district number’ by Peter William Edwards (c.1960)

This poster was one of a number produced as part of a Royal Mail campaign to get people to use their correct addresses in the 1950s and 60s, due to a growth in mail volumes after the Second World War. The Public Relations Department focused its efforts from 1955 on getting the public to correctly address their mail, a campaign that still continues today.

In 2015, Peter Edwards, who designed this poster, described the inspiration behind the scene 'The cosmopolitan life of bomb scarred London’s Soho was represented by Bojena, a Slovene designer, my new Swedish wife the artist Gunvor Edwards, our latest blue BMW, (bubble car) and the BBC designer Oliver Elmes, all in our student days’.
