The railway comprised 90 narrow gauge trains running on over 22 miles of track and travelling over six miles across London. The track was, on average, 70 feet below ground.
The first section of the railway opened in 1927. At its peak the railway was running 22 hours a day, moving millions of items of mail across the capital.
