Letter from Robert Browning to Elizabeth Barrett (January 1844)

The 19th century poets Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett wrote more than 570 love letters to each other in a period of less than two years, from January 1845 to September 1846. The correspondence covers their developing romance and secret marriage. The first letter from Browning starts with his admiration of Elizabeth’s poetry: ‘I love your verses with all my heart, dear Miss Barrett …’

The letters have been digitised and are available to view online.
