Letter addressed to Samuel Pepys (19 November 1665)

This letter was sent to Samuel Pepys under the frank of ‘G. Hickes’. It has been stamped with an early London Bishopmark, the world’s first postmark, and dates from the year of the Great Plague. Pepys noted in his diary at the end of 1665: ‘I have never lived so merrily (besides that I never got so much) as I have done this plague time’.
