Keeping letters private (early 20th century)

For centuries before pre-gummed envelopes became widespread, wax was used to seal letters and envelopes closed. This cardboard box contains seven sticks of 'Finest India Black Sealing Wax' wrapped in tissue paper. Each stick of wax is inscribed 'Army and Navy Co-operative Society Ltd. 105 Victoria Street' at one end and 'India' at the other.
