Improving the speed and efficiency of mail delivery

In 1784, the introduction of mail coaches vastly increased the speed and efficiency of mail delivery across the UK. Just two years later, the coaches were traveling the 400 mile journey from London to Edinburgh in about 60 hours compared to 96 hours by a horse. The introduction of mail coaches is widely considered as one of the greatest innovations when it comes to increasing the speed at which mail could be delivered across the country.
