First uniform for women (1915)

It wasn’t until the outbreak of First World War when thousands of women and girls were recruited to replace the men who were away at war, that a full uniform specifically for postwomen was introduced. This black and white postcard shows a postwoman in uniform. On the back of the postcard is a handwritten message which reads: 'With love & best wishes/ to your dear baby also Holly/ Mrs Worthing'.
