David Gentleman

David Gentlemen is the most prolific British stamp designer of the modern era. Between 1962 and 2000, he designed 103 stamps for Royal Mail. His work included an album of experimental designs commissioned by Tony Benn, then Postmaster General, to show how stamps could dispense with the large photograph of the Queen, then mandatory.

Of course, this never happened. Images of the Queen have featured on every stamp in her reign.
