Britain, as the inventor of the postage stamp, was the first country in the world to publish stamps. Since then, the Queen’s image has become inseparable from the stamp itself, despite attempts to replace it. In the 1960s, the then Postmaster General Tony Benn controversially considered removing the Queen’s Head from stamps and replacing it with ‘UK Postage’. Of course, this didn’t happen, and the Queen has featured on over 2,600 stamp designs.
