Arthur Hamilton Norway, head of the Royal Mail in Ireland, was based at the main post office in Dublin in 1916 at the time of the Easter Rising. The GPO was seized by the rebels and Norway wrote a first-hand account of events which is in the Royal Mail Archive. His son (the novelist Nevil Shute) was later commended for his role as a stretcher bearer during the events.
