A swagger stick is a short cane which is used to denote authority. This wooden, black lacquered swagger stick is tapered to a point with a brass top. The top of the stick is silver plated with the regimental emblem of the 24th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers on it. The design includes a Maltese cross in the centre of a laurel wreath, surmounted by a Tudor crown. 'POST/ OFFICE' in banners goes across the wreath. There are also symbols for a bishop's mitre and a posthorn.
