Home Gallery ‘A pleasing tone - always!’ by Pieter Huveneers (1957)
This Internal Relations Panel poster was designed for internal display purposes only, and was produced by the Joint Production Council of Royal Mail. Such posters were designed to promote staff efficiency by reminding them of established procedures, good customer service and attention to detail.
However, female telephonists at Liverpool Telephone Exchange believed that this poster, and its ‘Speak clearly’ counterpart, gave ‘such a strong impression of a vacuous mind’ that ‘it reflected adversely on their attitude to their jobs’.
